Enjoy an alternative Burns night with Babelfish as they perform the legendary bard’s works in a unique and contemporary way. Mixing the traditions of fiddles and flute with box, bass, keyboards and poetry, the band create an experience for the ears that you are unlikely to witness again.

Comprised of top Scottish musicians from groups such as the Peatbog Faeries, Treacherous Orchestra and Blazin’ Fiddles, Babelfish are a melting pot of musical influences born from an impromptu appearance at Glasgow’s Celtic Connections Festival in 2005. Since then, the band has gone on to grace various festival stages, including several appearances at Rockness, and released debut album International Disgrace to critical acclaim.

Described as half poetry, half rap”, Jock Urquahart’s resonant lyrics are layered over Adam Sutherland’s fiddle, John Sommerville’s accordion, Andy Thorburn’s keys and Iain Copeland’s drums. Tinges of jazz, rock, reggae and blues ensure the band transcend familiar folk parameters to achieve a truly distinctive and highly entertaining sound. This night of rousing music and spoken word will include original material from Babelfish in addition to old Burns favourites.
