Where has Le Weekend gone?
Over the last 13 years Le Weekend has been championing music that some would say is marginal. Le Weekend does not believe this to be true. We see the music that has been performed over the years as vital. Vital for anyone interested in the creative and rewarding experience of exploration and eureka moment of finding something new.
Artists like Otomo Yoshihide, Peter Brotzmann, Keiji Haino, Thurston Moore, Han Bennink, Zeena Parkins, Kazuki Tomokawa, Dread Foole & Borbetomagus have all shared their astounding creative visions at Le Weekend with us and there will be a whole lot more….
Le Weekend has not ended, it has just relocated. The sunny skies of May will be replaced by the mysterious mists of October. We see this as a new beginning and hope that you will too but slowly, to let you get used to this move we thought we’d programme a one-off taster. A Le Weekend bonus prize…
THE SEXUAL OBJECTS
The Sexual Objects is the latest project assembled by Davy Henderson, previously leader of the hugely influential Fire Engines and The Nectarine No.9. The group has released four singles to date, including the excellent Boards Of Canada-produced 'Here Come The Rubber Cops'.
The Sexual Objects recently released their forth 7” vinyl single on Hamburg's Aktion und Spass label, Queen City of the 4th Dimension, and are gearing up to release a split 7” single (in the good company of Peter Parker), which will be released on the Say Dirty / Lucky Number 9 label.
The List : A frighteningly assured amalgam of freakbeat garage glam and east coast cool… Henderson and co are still the best rock’n’roll band on this or any other planet”
Basement Scam : Henderson spews a languid croon that sounds like Bob Dylan in the mid-sixties over an appealing Bolan-esque boogie, glamming it up like a reverbless Jesus & Mary Chain, the whole history of Scots pop flowing through their veins”.
Fire Escape Talking : Here Come The Rubber Cops has the attractively louche narcotic drawl of Lou Reed, and sounds like Prince taking on The Only Ones. You can hear a bit of Marquee Moon’s apocalypse – the darkness doubling, lightning striking itself – too”
