Bridging the Gap was originally written for Celtic Connections 2008 as part of the New Voices series where fiddler and composer Patsy Reid combined her experience and love of both traditional and classical music.
The piece is a journey through the seven modern modes of music, aiming to exhibit each as authentically as possible. Structurally, the work takes the form of a violin concerto, with Patsy’s fiddle taking the role of soloist and being joined by piano, guitar, double bass, percussion and string ensemble.
Joining Patsy is a fantastic line-up of musicians: Greg Lawson, Peter Tickell, Mairi Campbell, Iain Hutchison, Mhairi Hall, Michael Byran, Lydia Whittaker, Deirdre Morrison, Duncan Lyall and Iain Copeland.
Support will be provided by young musicians from McLaren High School, Callander and participants of the Tolbooth’s Traditional Music Workshops. These young players will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Bridging the Gap ensemble, performing specially composed music after a series of workshops.
An attractive and skillfully assembled work that is coherent, imaginative and beautifully performed.” (The Scotsman)
